Youtube works awards shows 2023

case studies, transitions, 3D and 2D asset creation

The Setup

The YouTube Works Awards is an annual event celebrating the best YouTube ad campaigns from around the globe. With categories spanning multiple languages and countries, the shows demand significant motion design. Last year’s Southeast Asia shows featured dynamic case study videos for the winners and runners-up in each category, displayed on large screens. Additionally, an impressive arrangement of narrow horizontal and vertical screens was used to deliver a visual “wow factor.”

Because the winners are determined shortly before the event goes live, motion design templates and layouts were pre-created to allow for quick turnarounds. These templates were designed to be adaptable, enabling seamless adjustments to suit each video.

The Doing

As part of the creative team, I played a key role in ensuring the videos maintained a cohesive and polished look. While some templates were prototyped early, I expanded them to accommodate all use cases and designed 3D models of the award itself, which were incorporated across all videos.

In the tight timeline, we produced more than 10 videos, each highlighting the unique strengths of the winners. I contributed to quality control, paying special attention to text readability—an essential consideration given the stage setup and screen dimensions.

The Result

All case study videos were delivered on time, with some produced in as little as a day as deadlines loomed! Designing and remixing templates allowed creative expression while adhering to the event’s cohesive colour palette and motion style.
